Awarded first rank entry (EUR 40,000)

Johanna Irander, Nuno Gonçalves Fontarra - The Hague, Netherlands

The Jury's Remarks
This entry is unique in its fresh and ethereal quality. It proposes a clear definition of public and private space and uses blocks of varying grain as a generating device. The investigation of Vatnsmıri has not been isolated to its relationship with the city but considered in the context of the northern edge of Reykjanes; from the international airport to the mountain Esjan. It is these deft qualities that make the proposal an important part of the discussion. However the proposed mist that enhances the allure of the proposal is considered unrealistic. Furthermore typographical elaboration and a convincing environmental agenda are wanting and the project is too reliant on the written manifesto.
